Today, June 9 — Rom. 4:7-16:27
Romans seems different than Paul’s other letters, doesn’t it? Since he had yet to visit the church there, there isn’t much of a personal connection, and therefore, no direct input regarding specific issues or challenges.
Romans is intense theology. It’s almost overwhelming read at the pace required of the challenge. It’s Paul’s double-barreled, two-fisted, no-holds-barred assault on the law of sin and death with the powerful, revolutionary truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
