Barf bag? Doggie bag? Sometimes I confuse the two.

A barf bag is helpful when you’re losing your lunch. A doggie bag helps you transport what’s left of your lunch.

It seems like it would be easy enough to the two bags sorted out. But often, I confuse the two. And needless to say, the mix up leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

For those of you who are feeling a bit queasy right now, rest assured I’m speaking figuratively. But don’t blame me for the word picture. This one is God’s idea:

Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.
(Proverbs 26:11 ESV)

Sure, it’s easy to recognize the error in a canine snacking on its own barf. But are we as quick to see our returning to the same sins over and over in the same light? To a holy God, this foolishness is disgusting.

I’m so glad that in Christ, we are free from bondage to sin. My prayer is that He will continue to open my eyes to my folly, so that I can walk in the freedom Jesus affected upon the cross.

How about you? Do you have folly that you tend to return to often? How is God helping you to break this cycle in your life?
